Bissell Buzz 2015/05

July 3, 2015

What a busy week this has been!  With so many people travelling across the country to be with family for Fourth July celebrations, many have stopped at the Fort in passing by.  How blessed we are to be so visible on Highway 36!  An interesting observation was how many local grandparents brought their visiting grandchildren to come and explore the Fort and all its historical treasures.

We skipped doing Fun Friday in the light of the Independence Day weekend and really missed the joyful laughter of the children.  We are however back on track for this coming Friday again, June 10th.  In the spirit of the past weekend’s celebrations, we will be looking at Flag Etiquette.  There will be a mini scavenger hunt once again to find as many flags as possible throughout the Fort.  And to end it all, there will be some pictures featuring the flag to color in and take home. Children from 6 to 12 years are invited to come and spend an hour of fun at the Fort.  It starts at 10am and if you are sending your child, please contact us to let us know in order to prepare beforehand.

We have sent out the membership postcards and would like to thank everyone that has responded by sending their membership dues or donations to help Fort Bissell. If you are not already a member and wish to be, the membership dues are really very very low – $5 for a single person, $20 for a couple or family and $25 for a business.  We would just love to have some new members too! Every bit helps to keep Fort Bissell open and looking nice year after year.

Our Wall of Fame is calling out for this year’s nominations.  Our aim is to honor someone that is special to the community or made their mark in some significant way.  Please contact us with your ideas – we would love this to be a community nomination and not driven solely by us.

Our hours are Tuesday to Friday 9am – 4pm and Saturday 9am – 2pm.  Closed Sundays, Mondays and 4th July.  Regular updates and photos are posted on our Facebook page.

We can be contacted on (785) 543-6212 or by email at

Remember entrance is FREE. See ya at the Fort!!
