Bissell Buzz 2015/03

June 19, 2015

We kicked off our first Fun Friday of the season with Scavenger Hunt.  Eleven kids and some of their parents too joined in on the fun.  Items were placed throughout the museum and had to be collected in their paper sacks.  Each one got a small certificate of completion and we sealed it with an old Notary Public Seal on display.  Ava Wiehman, Ruben Steenkamp and Hudson Wiehman were the winning team which had completed the Hunt in no time.  It wasn’t really a competition and no prizes were at stake, but only good old fun to be had by all. Thank you to all who came to join in.

Fun Friday continues and on Friday June 26th we will be making our feathered friends happy too, by making bird feeders.  Children from 6 to 12 years are invited to come and spend an hour of fun at the Fort.  It starts at 10am and if you are sending your child, please contact us to let us know in order to prepare beforehand.

We will be showcasing the City of Kirwin this year in our Heritage House.  If there are people that have items, photos or even stories to share about the past of Kirwin and its residents, please make contact with us. Any items will carefully be looked after while on loan for the display.

We already have three people on our Wall of Fame, i.e. Tad Felts, John Mason and Eunice Boeve.  We are currently awaiting nominations for 2015.  Please contact us with your suggestions.  Remember they have to be from Phillips County.

Our hours are Tuesday to Friday 9am – 4pm and Saturday 9am – 2pm.  Closed Sundays, Mondays and 4th July.  Regular updates and photos are posted on our Facebook page.

We can be contacted on (785) 543-6212 or on email at

Remember entrance is FREE. See ya at the Fort – hopefully soon!!
